Yoichi Ochiai (b. 1987, Tokyo) is a Japanese media artist, researcher, and entrepreneur whose multidisciplinary practice bridges the domains of human-computer interaction, computational optics, acoustic levitation, virtual reality, and AI-driven accessibility. He holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Information Studies from the University of Tokyo (2015), where he became the first student in the program's history to complete the doctoral course early. Ochiai currently serves as Associate Professor at the University of Tsukuba, where he directs the Digital Nature Development Research Center, and concurrently as Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (from December 2025). His research centers on the concept of 'Digital Nature' (Keisanki Shizen) - a vision in which computational and natural environments are seamlessly fused to create new forms of cultural, scientific, and aesthetic value. As a media artist, Ochiai has presented over 30 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions at major international venues including Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, the Barbican Centre, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. His artistic practice explores the boundaries between material and immaterial, digital and physical, drawing on traditions from Japanese mingei (folk craft) to Shingon Buddhist philosophy. He is the Signature Pavilion Producer for the null² Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, a landmark installation integrating architecture, AI, and mirror membrane technology. In 2015 Ochiai founded Pixie Dust Technologies, Inc., a wave-control technology startup that was listed on NASDAQ in 2023 (privatized 2024), and also co-founded jiseCHI Inc. He has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (2022), received the MEXT Minister's Award for Science and Technology (2023, 2025), and has been named an MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35 Japan (2021). His publication record spans 260+ papers with an h-index of 29 and 3,300+ citations, presented at premier venues including ACM SIGGRAPH, CHI, and UIST. Since 2018 he has directed the 'Concert without Hearing by Ear' project with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, pioneering multisensory concert experiences that transcend conventional auditory boundaries through wearable technology and spatial computing.

落合陽一は1987年東京生まれのメディアアーティスト・研究者・起業家であり、ヒューマンコンピュータインタラクション、計算機光学、音響浮揚、仮想現実、AIアクセシビリティを横断する実践を展開している。2015年に東京大学大学院学際情報学府で博士号を取得し、同課程初の短縮修了者となった。現在は筑波大学でデジタルネイチャー開発研究センター長を務めるとともに、2025年12月から東京大学大学院新領域創成科学研究科の准教授を兼務している。研究の中心には、計算環境と自然環境が滑らかに融合する新しい世界像としての「計算機自然」がある。 メディアアーティストとしては30件を超える個展を開催し、Ars Electronica、SIGGRAPH、バービカン・センター、東京都現代美術館など国際的な場で作品を発表してきた。日本の民藝や真言思想も参照しながら、物質と非物質、デジタルと物理の境界を探っている。大阪・関西万博 2025 のシグネチャーパビリオン `null²` では、建築、AI、ミラーメンブレン技術を統合した実装を担った。 2015年には波動制御技術スタートアップ Pixie Dust Technologies を創業し、jiseCHI inc. も共同設立した。世界経済フォーラム Young Global Leader(2022)、文部科学大臣表彰 科学技術賞(2023、2025)などを受賞し、MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Japan(2021)にも選出されている。研究業績は260本超、h-index は29、被引用数は3,300件超にのぼり、ACM SIGGRAPH、CHI、UIST などで発表している。2018年以降は日本フィルハーモニー交響楽団との「耳で聴かない音楽会」を継続し、装着型技術と空間計算による多感覚的な音楽体験を切り拓いている。
